Please then send us the following:
- Cactus Volunteers Abroad application form
- £250 deposit (£200 placement fee + £50 application fee)
- Typed response to Essay Questions: the first part is in English and the second part is in Spanish/Portuguese *
- CV in English and Spanish/Portuguese *
- 2 reference letters (personal and/or work)
- A recent photo of any size
* The Essay Questions and CV need not be completed in Spanish/Portuguese if you are a complete beginner in the language. If you have any language knowledge please do what you can: these versions may be less detailed and errors are permitted!
* Please complete in Spanish for: Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala & Peru applications. Please complete in Portuguese for Brazil applications. |

What Happens Next
Once we receive the above materials we will process your application and contact you shortly with a volunteer placement option. We will require you to confirm acceptance within one week, and your final placement details will follow shortly. In the unlikely event of us being unable to place you, we will notify you and refund your placement fee. If your placement is confirmed, the deposit is non-refundable and full payment is due. We will then send you a confirmation invoice and a travel pack containing all pre-departure info for your upcoming trip...and it's time to get excited!

Tips on Applying
- Be as flexible as possible with the type of work you are willing to do, the date you are willing to start and the countries in which you are willing to be placed.
- Try to make your CV as detailed as possible: be sure to include all travel experience, qualifications, specialised course work, hobbies, etc.
- Be clear, thoughtful and honest about your reasons for wanting to participate: answering the Essay Questions is a good opportunity to think things through.
- Please send all application materials to us at the same time.

| Volunteer Requirements We need you to be:
- Min 18 yrs: we suggest 21 yrs but can be flexible, ie. if you have experience of your host country, or extensive travel experience and can demostrate the maturity necessary for volunteer service in a foreign country.
- Lower Intermediate level in Spanish/Portuguese by the time you start your placement (you can start as a beginner however).
- Skilled or experienced in your field of work in some cases: in other cases you will not need any experience and/or any necessary skills will be learnt on the job.
- Dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic about your work.
- Flexible about the kind of work you do.
- Able to adapt quickly to a new environment and new people.
- Looking to start at least 2 months ahead: this gives us time to process your application and look for the most suitable placement for you.
