Beijing
Formerly Peking, Beijing is China's political and cultural
heart. Shrouded by the Yanshan Mountains to the north and
the Taihang Mountains to the west, Beijing is a city famous
for the Great Wall and the classical splendour of the Summer
Palace. Other famous monuments include the Forbidden City,
home to both the Ming and Qing dynasties and Tiananmen Square,
scene of political protest and mass rallies.
Xi'an
A city more than 3,000 years old, Xi'an, was founded on the
old Silk Road and has survived over 13 dynasties. Surrounded
by the impressive walls of Xi'an, volunteers can visit the
terracotta warriors, admire the architecture of The Big Wild
Goose Pagoda or take in a Chinese opera.

The government is aiming to encourage over 400,000 more English
speakers in the country, for the games, so demand for people
to teach English as a foreign language has never been greater.
With such enormous economic growth and social change happening,
there are fabulous opportunities to work in communities, sharing
and gaining experiences when volunteering in China.
